Special Financial Aid following Hurricanes Rita and Katrina.
The federal government has made available disaster relief funds for students affected by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. The affected area includes counties or parishes in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Alabama. The affected area link is listed below. If you do not live in the affected area, please do not apply. These funds are to be used to help pay educational expenses.
This is a need based Title IV Student Aid program. To be eligible to receive these funds you must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you live in an affected area and have already filed the FAFSA you have completed the first step. If you live in an affected area and have not filed the FAFSA, please do so as soon as possible. You may file the FAFSA on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. When filing the FAFSA on line make sure you choose the 2005-06 school year. You should use yours and/or your parents 2004 Federal Tax Return when completing the FAFSA.
The second step in the process is to complete the Application for Federal Hurricane Katrina/Rita Relief Funds. This application should be turned in to the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible. Your financial aid data will be evaluated to determine how much you will receive. If we need additional information you will be contacted. Mail the application to Office of Enrollment Services, Box 4035 or bring it to the Financial Aid Office in Nelson Hall - Room 1
