in the 2002 edition of U. S. News and World Reports's rankings
among Southern universities, and we are ranked in the top
ten category of "best values" in the 2001 edition.
MC was among only two Mississippi universities rated in
the top tier; and was ranked 31st in Best Universities
- Masters in the Southern Region.
- For
ten consecutive years, MC has been selected on the Honor
Roll of Character Building Institutions as selected by
the John Templeton Foundation.
- According
to Franklin and Marshall College Baccalaureate Origin of
Doctorate Recipients, 7th Edition,
- MC
ranks #19 in the nation in the number of undergraduate
students who have pursued and have been awarded doctoral
degrees in all fields. MC is the top rated institution
in our class in the southeast.
- Since
1920, MC has ranked number one in the nation in professional
areas such as business, theology, etc.
- MC
ranks in the top 2.5 percent in the field of education,
top 3.5 percent in the non-sciences, and the top
17 percent in the sciences.
- In
the past five years, 73 percent of MC students who have
applied to medical school have been accepted, an acceptance
rate of almost twice the national average according to
the Association of American Medical Colleges for 1997-1998. With
less than 5 percent of the total student population in
the state, Mississippi College has averaged MC students
filling 10 percent of of the medical school class at the
University of Mississippi School of Medicine for the past
five years.
- The
Mississippi College dental school acceptance rate for the
past five years has been 76 percent. MC has supplied 16
percent of the dental students to the University Medical
Center during that period of time.
- Graduates
of the School of Nursing consistently score higher than
the state and national averages on the NCLEX-RN exam (Mississippi
Board of Nursing).
- MC
has had the most American Chemical Society Certified Chemistry
Graduates (41 of them) of any institution in Mississippi
from 1991-2001.
- The
United States Water Fitness Association has awarded Mississippi
College's Aquatic Program its number one ranking in the
U.S. among all college programs for 2001.
- The
Mississippi College School of Education has been NCATE
accredited for over 40 years, having the distinction of
being the first private institution in Mississippi to be
accredited by NCATE and the second university in the state
of Mississippi to be given this accreditation.
- The
Department of Psychology and Counseling is the first institution
of higher learning in Mississippi to receive accreditation
by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related
Educational Programs (CACREP) in the areas of Marriage
and Family Counseling/Therapy and Mental Health Counseling.
It also received accreditation by CACREP in the area of
School Counseling.
- MC
also holds national accreditations in the areas of Sociology,
Nursing, Music, business, law, social work, and chemistry.
- Mississippi
College Art Department offers a Master of Fine Arts degree.
Our school is the only Baptist institution to offer this
degree in the nation and one of only six evangelical schools
in the nation to offer this degree.
- The
Chamber Choir of the MC Music Department was selected by
blind audition tapes to perform for the American Choral
Directors Association regional convention. The regional
convention is composed of ten states. The MC Choir has
been chosen for this honor twice and is the only Baptist
school in the last five years to have a choir selected
for this honor.

The Mortar Board Cap & Grown Chapter of Mississippi College
was awarded the 1999-2000 Golden Torch Award. MC was one
of only 25 Mortar Board chapters from across the nation
to be given this award.

MC has had an active International Study Program for 14 years.

Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelors, masters, education
specialists degrees, the education doctorate and the first professional degree in
