Scholarships

The purpose of any award or scholarship is to recognize outstanding academic achievement, service in the community, and leadership skills. In addition to these factors some students may demonstrate that they have financial need. Mississippi College seeks to address all of these factors when making scholarship decisions. Note: $9,000 cap on all institutional awards and Scholarships unless otherwise indicated.

Freshman Achievement Awards
Need Criteria	Required from Applicant	Amount
Leadership Awards will be based on the student's demonstrated leadership in school, church, and community, and GPA. Freshmen must have a minimum of an 18 ACT or 870 SAT.	Complete a leadership application as well as send a résumé with all extra-curricular activities. An official high school transcript is also required.	Amounts of Leadership Awards are variable depending on the amount of leadership qualities and GPA. Leadership Awards may be stacked. The amount of Leadership plus any other scholarship cannot exceed the institutional cap.
Opportunity Grants will be based upon a minimum ACT score of 18 or 870 SAT.	Complete an application for admissions with an official high school transcript and ACT/SAT score.	The amount of Opportunity Grant plus any other scholarship cannot exceed the institutional cap.

Freshmen Academic Achievement Awards

Dean's Scholar is based upon ACT score of 25-28 or 1130-1270 SAT.	Complete an application for admissions with an official high school transcript and ACT/SAT score.	Given in amounts of: 25-26 - $6,000 27-28 - $7,000
Presidential Scholar is based upon ACT score of 29 or higher or 1280 SAT.	Complete an application for admissions with an official high school transcript and ACT/SAT score.	Award: $10,000
Presidential Scholar with Distinction is based upon ACT score of 29 or higher or 1280 SAT and evaluation of additional presidential requirements.	Complete an application for admissions with an official high school transcript,resume,two letters of reference,250 word essay¹;and personal interview with scholarship committee.	Award: $12,500
Trustee Scholar is based upon ACT score of 29 or higher or 1280 SAT and evaluation of additional presidential requirements.	Complete an application for admissions with an official high school transcript,resume,two letters of reference,250 word essay¹;and personally interview with the scholarship committee.	Award: $15,000

Transfer Achievement Awards

Students who do not have a 3.5 GPA may be awarded a Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship in addition to traditional transfer scholarships offered.

Phi Theta Kappa Presidential Scholar is based upon 4.0 GPA with a minimum of 24 hours.	Complete an application for admissions with an official college transcript; write 250 word essay¹ and advisor membership verification.	Award: $10,000

Part-Time Commuter Assistance

Need Criteria	Required from Applicant	Amount
Hillman Award is based upon meeting regular admission criteria, commutes to MC, first-time to enroll, no other institutional aid, and enroll as a part-time student.	Complete an application for admissions with an official high school transcript and ACT score or SAT equivalent or all college transcripts.	Awards are variable based on transcripts from previous schools: $500 - $2,000

Alumni Dependent Scholarship

Need Criteria	Required from Applicant	Amount
Alumni Dependent Awards are based upon meeting regular admission criteria as well as being a tax dependent of anyone who completed at least one full semester for credit at Mississippi College.	Complete an application for admissions with an official high school transcript and ACT score or SAT equivalent or all college transcripts.	Award: $250 per semester (available for up to eight semesters for freshmen and four semesters for transfers.)

Additional Achievement and Merit Scholarships

Christian Ministry	Baptist Pastor/Church Recommendation and public call to ministry	$1,250 per semester and must be renewed every fall
Christian Ministry Dependent	Must be a tax dependent of a full-time Southern Baptist Minister	$1,250 per semester
Acteen	Must be recommended by Acteen sponsor and be active in organization	$1,000 one time
Speaker's Tournament	State convention recommendation	State winner: Room and Board Second, third and fourth place: Room Associational winners: $500 one time²
Bible Drill	State convention recommendation	State winner: Room and Board Second and third place: Room²
Baptist Student Union (BSU)	Sponsor recommendation and must be active in campus ministry	$500 per semester and must be renewed every fall
Hugh O'Bryan Scholarship	Sponsor recommendation required	$500 one time
