Transfer Scholarship Competition

Entering transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher are invited to compete in MC's Transfer Scholarship Competition.  A select number of students will be chosen for additional scholarships based upon an interview and submission of the items listed below.

For a full description of all of your opportunities for scholarships and financial aid, visit our scholarship page.

The Competition

There are two interview dates to choose from in the competition: Monday, April 20, 2015, and Thursday, June 25, 2015. Interviews will be conducted every 30 minutes throughout the morning. Business attire is requested.

Interviewees are evaluated based upon an interview with Admissions Counselors and their submission of a resume and written essay.  Interviews are conducted in a panel format, with 4-5 students interviewing at one time.  Scores from each area are calculated to determine the top winners.

Requirements & Registration

In order to interview for additional scholarships, students must register online for their desired interview date.  Interview time preferences may be given, and we will do our best to accommodate.  Your interview time will be assigned after you register and you will be notified shortly thereafter.

Students must complete the following in order to be eligible for additional awards:

  • Must be provisionally accepted in Admissions

  • Registration of an interview time  (Registration will open in early 2015)

  • Submission of a resume (two pages maximum) outlining your academic and extracurricular involvements/achievements during high school/community college.  Include a current photograph.

  • Submission of a one page essay in response to this: “You just completed your 350-page autobiography.  Please submit page 198.

Resumes and questionnaire responses should be submitted to Michelle Ladner in the Office of Admissions by email: mladner@mc.edu.  All items are due on Wednesday, April 15, or Friday, June 19, respective to your interview date.

Trustee, Distinction, and Scholar Awards

After students are evaluated on all competition criteria, four students will be named Transfer Trustee Scholars, receiving an additional $10,000 added to their current scholarship award ($5,000 if off campus).  Twenty students will be selected as Transfer Scholars with Distinction, receiving an additional $5000 per year on top of their original scholarship offer ($2,500 if off campus). And twenty students will be selected as Transfer Scholars with Honors, receiving an additional $3,000 per year ($1,500 if off campus).

Unfortunately, there are only a limited number of these top tier awards.  However, everyone who attends the interview competition who does not receive one of the top awards will receive an additional $1000 per year to their original offer ($500 if off campus).  These same students may also receive up to $2000, total, in stackable scholarships if the criteria is met.

*Trustee Scholars not eligible for stackable scholarships.
**Trustee and Distinction scholarships are only awarded to students over 4-6 consecutive semesters, depending upon the classification of the student when they enroll.

MC will also be holding Transfer Orientation on the afternoons of these same dates - April 20 and June 25.
