"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord..."

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." — Jeremiah 29:11

The prophet Jeremiah wrote these words to the Israelites who had been captured and taken from Jerusalem to Babylon, where they were being held in exile. His encouraging words let them know that God had not forgotten them. Even in this difficult situation, God still had a plan for their lives.

Rescue, however, was not coming immediately. Jeremiah 29:7 instructs the people, “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” God’s plan for the people was not exclusively to benefit them, but also to bless others through them.

In the following pages, you’ll meet people who have found themselves in difficult, confusing, and even tragic situations. While their challenges are all different, their responses have one thing in common. They have chosen to cling to God’s promise of a plan that will give them hope and a future. And in seeking God’s plan for their own lives, they are touching the lives of others.
