Dr.
Bill Wheeler is Chair of the Department of Psychology and Counseling. He serves as the Academic Unit leader for the
three graduate CACREP Accredited Counselor Education Programs. His terminal
degree is in Educational Research and Evaluation, with an emphasis in
counseling and a cognate in statistics, from Virginia Tech. He has a Master of
Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from
Dr.
Wheeler is assigned 100% to the academic unit that contains the psychology and
counselor education programs. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses and
periodically provides supervision to students in undergraduate student research
and graduate practicum and internship courses.
Dr.
Wheeler is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), a Licensed Professional
Counselor (LPC), the current Past-President
of the American Mental Health Counselors Association, a Past-President
and the Mississippi Counseling Association, and a Past Vice-Chair of the Board
of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors in
Dr.
Wheeler has acquired more than twenty years of counseling experience working
with children, adolescents and adults in individual, group and family therapy. His
experience has occurred in a wide variety of settings, some of which have been:
Boston State (Psychiatric) Hospital; Maryland State Department of Education,
Division of Vocational Rehabilitation; Liberty University Counseling Center,
Liberty University Career Planning and Placement Center; River’s
Bend Adolescent Residential Treatment Center; Scott Community Counseling Clinic; and H. W.
Wheeler, Jr. & Associates private practice. Dr. Wheeler has memberships in
the American Counseling Association, the American Psychological Association,
the American Psychological Society; the American Mental Health Counselors
Association; the Association of Counselor Education and Supervision; the
Mississippi Counseling Association; the Mississippi Association of Counselor
Education and Supervision; the Mississippi Licensed Professional Counselors
Association, the Mississippi Association for Multi-Cultural Counseling and
Development; and the Mississippi Association for Specialists in Group Work.
