      Brian E.  Anderson, Ph.D.  (2006), Assistant Professor in Sociology and Social Work.  Credentials: B.A., Tougaloo College; M.S.W., Louisiana State University; Ph.D., Jackson State University

Dr. Anderson teaches courses in sociology, social welfare policies and programs, social problems, human behavior, practice and other areas of social work. In addition, Dr. Anderson is currently involved in continuing research involving Black-Greek Letter Organizations and their involvement in Civic Engagement.

Dr. Anderson’s professional interests include African American studies, African American male development, school social work, civic engagement, youth violence, welfare of sports (mental health of athletes), and college freshman issues. banderso@mc.edu

 

 

            Mary T. Johnston, L.M.S.W. (1996), Assistant Professor in Social Work and Family Studies, and Social Work Program Field Director  Credentials: B.A., Mississippi College; M.S.W., Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

 

Ms. Johnston’s areas of instructional expertise include church social work, medical social work, child abuse, family issues and diversity issues in social work practice. Her area of interest is to fully develop an international program in social work opportunities of study abroad.

  Gary K. Mayfield, Ph.D. (2005), Department Chair of Sociology and Social Work and Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Associate Professor of Sociology and Social Work. Credentials: B.A. in Sociology, Louisiana College; M.A. in Sociology, Stephen F. Austin State University; M.Div. in Psychology and Counseling, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; A graduate certificate in Gerontology and M.S.W. in Health Domain within an Administrative Track, University of Georgia; Ph.D. in Sociology, Emory University.

 

Dr. Mayfield’s field of interest is in geriatrics and aging issues. He teaches courses in medical and health care, aging, research methods, sociology of education and global sociology.

   James W. Wooten, Ph.D. (1990), Professor of Sociology and Social Work. Credentials: B.S., Union University; M.A., Stephen F. Austin State University; M.C.P., Mississippi College; Ph.D., University of Tennessee; additional studies, University of Tennessee School of Social Work, Reformed Theological Seminary, University of Memphis, Memphis Theological Seminary, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

 

Dr. Wooten’s areas of instruction include family therapy, social theory and the sociology of religion. His research has recently focused on integration of narrative therapy and narrative/liberation theology. Dr. Wooten is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
