Membership in Alpha Chi recognizes previous accomplishments and provides opportunity for continued growth and service.  Alpha Chi seeks to find ways to assist students in “making scholarship effective for good.”  Chapters sponsor a variety of local programs designed to enhance the intellectual life and to uphold the ethical standards of their academic communities.  These include scholarly lectures, panel discussions, academic contests, receptions for prospective members, tutorial help and community service projects.  Students who join Alpha Chi can expect several benefits of membership:

Recognition as distinguished scholars by the College's most prestigious honorary society

A recognition pin and formal membership certificate

Opportunities to present scholarly work at campus, regional or national conventions and conferences

Opportunites to publish in the Alpha Chi national journal, the Recorder

Opportunities to compete through local chapters for Alpha Chi scholarships and fellowships, including

H.Y. Benedict Fellowships: $2,500 stipend for graduate or professional study

Alfred H. Nolle Scholarships: $1,500 stipend for the senior year of undergraduate study

The Mississippi Alpha chapter sponsors an academic event award each year.  The Forum of Inquiry, Research, and Scholastic Thought (FIRST) is the only campus event at which undergraduates present their scholarship to the entire academic community.  The chapter sponsors and selects the Male and Femal Scholar-Athlete Awards.
