CLINTON, MS - - The Mississippi College Phi Theta Kappa Alumni Association was named the No. 1 university alumni association in the world. This award for superior standing was presented during the Hallmark Award’s Gala at the International Convention of Phi Theta Kappa in April, 2006, in Seattle, Washington.
Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest, largest and most prestigious honor society serving two-year and community colleges in all 50 of the United States, Canada, Germany, and U.S. territorial possessions. Approximately 100,000 students are inducted annually in the Society's 1,200 chapters.
“As one of the five university based alumni associations in Mississippi and one of nearly 100 university based alumni associations internationally, this distinction is a great honor for Mississippi College,” said alumni association sponsor John Kelly.
The main focus of the senior institution alumni association is to provide programs and materials designed to ease members' transfer from the two-year college to the senior institution. “The Phi Theta Kappa Alumni Association allows incoming transfer students to have an immediate avenue of student involvement and allows them to give back to their community colleges at the same time,” said Director of Admissions Chad Phillips.
The MC Phi Theta Kappa Alumni Association is made up of 150 members from community colleges across the U.S. and supports local two-year college chapters of Phi Theta Kappa in achievement of the society’s hallmarks – scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service.
