BORROWING POLICIES FOR BOOKS

Full book borrowing privileges are available to currently enrolled students and faculty of Mississippi College. Borrowing privileges with some restrictions are also extended to other types of users. A current university ID card or library card must be presented at the Circulation Desk when borrowing books.

Currently enrolled M.C. Undergraduate, Graduate, Law, and Non-Degree Students

Borrowing privileges at the Speed Library, the Learning Resources Center, and the M.C. Law Library are available to all Mississippi College students. Students must abide by the loan and fine policies of the library where the items are borrowed and return the items to that library.

The general loan period for Speed Library books borrowed by students is three weeks with a limit of 30 items. Students may renew books twice for three weeks each time. Renewals may be requested in person or by calling 925.3232. Fines, replacement fees, and processing fees are charged for overdue and/or unreturned items.

M.C. graduate students who have dropped out of school for a short time may apply at the Graduate School Office for extension of library privileges. Written permission must be received by the Library from the Graduate School to renew these privileges each semester.

Graduate Students Working on Theses

Upon supplying the library with a written "Request for Thesis Time Extension" form from the Graduate School, graduate students working on their theses but not currently enrolled will be granted borrowing privileges. The loan period is nine weeks with a limit of 30 items; two nine-week renewals are allowed. Fines, replacement fees, and processing fees are charged for overdue and/or unreturned items.

Faculty and Staff

Borrowing privileges at the Speed Library, the Learning Resources Center, and the Law School Library are available to all Mississippi College faculty and staff. Users must abide by the loan and fine policies of the library where the items are borrowed and return the items to that library.

The general loan period for Speed Library books borrowed by faculty and staff is 12 weeks with a limit of 30 items. Books may be renewed three times for 12 weeks each time. Overdue fines are not levied against faculty and staff, but borrowers/patrons are responsible for replacement fees.

Other Qualified Borrowers

Faculty family members, New Orleans Baptist Seminary Extension students, and local pastors may borrow books from Speed Library upon presentation of a current library card. The card may be obtained at the Circulation Desk for an initial charge of $2 and must be renewed each semester. It entitles the holder to check out up to ten items for a period of three weeks, and two three-week renewals are allowed. Fines, replacement fees, and processing fees are charged for overdue and/or unreturned items.

BORROWING POLICIES FOR PERIODICALS

Periodicals may not be checked out of the library. Photocopy machines are available in the periodical area for making copies.

FINES AND REPLACEMENT FEES

For each book which is not returned, the borrower will be charged the greater of $50 or the current replacement cost, and the applicable fine.

Overdue book fines are $.10 per day with a three-day grace period and a maximum of $5 per item. Fines are not charged for days the library is closed.

RENEWALS

Books do not have to be brought to the library for renewal. Patrons may renew materials by presenting a current ID card at the Circulation Desk or by calling 925.3232.
