Kickball
  1. A team will consist of ten players, including an extra hitter. A minimum of eight players will be needed to start a game.
  2. Only nine players may play in the field, however all ten players will bat.
  3. All teams will be co-ed teams. A co-ed team must consist of five girls and five guys.
  4. Games are 7 innings or 60 minutes long.
  5. The ball is put in play when the pitcher (a player on the defensive team) rolls the ball toward home plate and the batter attempts to kick the ball. The batter must wait for the ball to be within three feet of home plate before kicking the ball. If the batter does not like the pitch, he/she should not attempt to kick it, and another pitch will be thrown. There are no strikeouts or walks. Two misses or two foul balls will result in an out.
  6. The infield fly rule will be in affect.
  7. A runner is tagged out when he/she is hit below the waist with the ball.
  8. A runner who leaves the base before the pitch reaches home plate or is hit, is out and the ball is dead. Leading off and stealing bases between pitches is not allowed.
  9. In order to prevent injury and protect the defensive player attempting to make a play on a base runner, the base runner must be called out, if he/she remains on his/her feet, and deliberately, with great force crashes into a defensive player holding the ball, waiting to apply a tag. If the act is determined to be flagrant, the offender shall also be ejected.
  10. Bunting will not be permitted and is a dead ball and an automatic out. The umpire will determine a bunt.
  11. Shoes must be worn by all players. No metal, hard plastic, or polyurethane spikes or shoes with detachable cleats are allowed.
  12. Game time is forfeit time.
  13. A coin flip will determine the choice of home and visiting teams. Be ready to bat/kick in proper order.
  14. Any player can play any position defensively.
  15. Sportsmanship is an important part of intramural sports.
  16. Any player who uses foul language, violently protests a call, or curses an official or supervisor, will be removed from the game and will automatically be suspended from his/her team's next game. In addition, he/she willhave to meet with the Director of Intramural Sports during office hours before he/she is eligible to participate again. Any player who touches an official or supervisor will be placed on suspension from all Intramural activities for a minimum period of one calendar year from the time of the incident.
  17. If at any time a team has 2 players or spectators ejected from the game, the offending team will immediately forfeit the game.
  18. M.C. Intramural Sports does not recognize the use of coaches. Only the team captain may speak to the umpires regarding administrative matters (protests, ejections, disqualifications, etc.).
  19. Teams are responsible for keeping their spectator's under control. Misconduct of spectator's and players may results in ejection and/or forfeiture of the game. Spectators must remain in the out-of-play areas. Only players are permitted in the playing area.
