Lupus -
Chronic
disease which affects joints, muscles, and other parts of the body;
involves inflamation and can be fatal
Fibromyalgia
- Common condition associated with muscular pain, fatigue
and mood changes; generally occurs at multiple sites throughout the body
Rheumatoid
Arthritis - Chronic desease mainly characterized by
inflamation of the lining of the joints; can lead to long term joint
damage resulting in chronic
pain, loss of function, and disability
Osteoporosis
- Disease characterized by low bone mass and structural
deterioration of bone tissue
Osteoarthritis
- Most common form of arthritis; is characterized by the
breakdown of joint cartilage and may affect any joint in the body
Gout
- Systemic
disease caused by the buildup of uric acid in the joints
Lyme Disease
- Caused
by bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi; transmitted to humans by the bite of
infected black-legged ticks
Raynaud's
Phenomenon - Results from poor circulation in the extremities
when exposed to cold temperatures
Scleroderma
- Rare progressive disease that leads to hardening and
tightening of the skin and connective tissues.
Tendonitis
- Inflammatory condition caused by pain at tendinous
insertions into bones
Spondylitis
- Arthritis that affects the spine or backbone; bones of
the spine may fuse together resulting in a rigid spine; causes back
pain and stiffness
Sjogren's
Symdrome - Disease characterized by dryness of the eyes and
mouth; associated with other types of arthritis such as lupus or
rheumatoid arthritis
Infectious
Arthritis - Infection of the fluid and tissues of a joint
caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi
Bursitis -
Inflamation of the bursa as a result of prolonged and
excessive pressure
Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome - Common source of hand numbness and pain;
caused by increasing pressure on a nerve entering the hand through the
carpal tunnel
Reactive
Arthritis - Inflamation of joints caused by certain
bacterial infections
Psoriatic
Arthritis - Swelling and pain in the joints surrounding the
spine
