I. COURSE TITLE: PSY/COU 7648 Advance Practicum in Reality Therapy
II. PREREQUISITES: Psy/Cou 7647 and instructor=s consent.
II. COURSE DESCRIPTION: PSY/COU 7648 - Advanced Practicum in Choice Theory
A series of role plays, lectures, demonstrations and conceptualization exercises in which the student demonstrates advanced practical application of skills and understanding of the concepts of Choice Theory and Reality Therapy.
IV. RATIONALE: Students planning to work with people in various helping situations need to have in-depth knowledge of a specific theoretical orientation and the ability to apply that orientation effectively when working with people in easy and difficult helping situations.
V. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Congratulations on reaching the final stage of preparation toward applying to becoming Reality Therapy Certified. At this level of training you are expected to be very familiar with the basic ideas of Control Theory, Reality Therapy, Quality, Lead Management, Quality Schools and related topics. You are also expected to possess basic role playing skills that demonstrate a solid grasp of how to apply Choice Theory and Reality Therapy in a helping situation, be it with a client, employee, student, or other person.
In this advanced practicum you will work on heightening your role playing skills and you will continue to add to your knowledge of Choice Theory and Reality Therapy concepts. Your efforts in this advanced practicum should result in abilities to work with both easy and difficult helping situations, to discuss CTRT ideas at an advanced level, and to make a polished 15 minute presentation on some aspect of CTRT.
An equally important part of the advanced practicum experience is demonstrating, throughout the practicum, that you are applying the CTRT concepts in your own life and in the approach you take to participating in the practicum. Working hard to apply the CTRT concepts while working in this practicum will prepare you to apply the concepts effectively in the work you do when attending a certification week with the Glasser Institute. Even if you do not plan to go on to become certified, your ability to apply the CTRT concepts is an important criterion for completing this practicum successfully, since it demonstrates the mastery that is expected of participants at this level of training.
