Mississippi College's mid-season ranking as the fourth best table tennis team in the nation is truly amazing when you consider this is only MC's third season.

Loaded with top players from China and Venezuela plus one talented Mississippi native, the MC team is rated ahead of such bigger schools as Virginia Tech, Florida State, Columbia and the University of Southern California.

Led by Captain Ken Qiu, an MBA student who works at the International Programs Office, the team is well on its way to its third trip to the national collegiate championships. The event is sponsored by the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association and will be held just outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin April 9-11.

Whether you call it table tennis or ping pong, these fierce MC Choctaws know how to win. MC's co-ed team finished 16th at the Nationals in Rochester, Minnesota in 2009. MC's newest mid-season ranking of 4th place shows the team is making steady progress. New players from China plus a relentless work ethic during practices at Alumni Gym are boosting the MC team.

Fans are invited to the Dixie Division Tournament at the Baptist Healthplex Saturday Feb. 13. Opponents will include Southern Miss, MSU, Alabama, Alabama-Huntsville and West Florida. The action begins at 9 a.m. and admission is free. Let's cheer on the nationally ranked MC Choctaws!
