Internship Information

Mississippi College provides students with the opportunity to combine an excellent education with practical work experience through internships. With an approved internship, the college grants academic credit for "hands-on" career related experience. There are many employers who participate in a formal internship with Mississippi College. These employers are able to utilize the services of the faculty to assist in recruiting interns and to design their internship for academic credit. Most interns work part-time while attending class, and summer interns frequently work full-time at the internship site. Some internships are for pay, and some are not. For questions regarding internships for academic credit, please contact Dr. Melissa Wiggins, mwiggins@mc.edu or go to the Academic Internship website.

"Not-for credit" internships are also available for students. It is the student's responsibility to secure these internship sites and negotiate their terms with the employer, as the college has no involvement. Search the College Central Network for available internship opportunities.

What can an internship do for you?

Participating in an internship gives you the opportunity to:

  • test your career choice
  • earn college credit
  • make informed decisions regarding major courses and electives
  • build work experience for your resume
  • present yourself as potential candidate

How do you apply for an internship?

If you are interested in applying for an internship for academic credit, meet with the faculty supervisor of internships in your academic area to discuss your qualifications and review the list of internship sites that have been approved for academic credit. Click on the Student Internship Application below to print the instructions and application. All forms and applications are also available on the Academic Internship website.

To apply for an internship not for academic credit, follow the application instructions listed in the job posting. Or, contact a Career Services professional for more information.
