FINANCIAL AID
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. When will I receive my financial aid?
We will start applying financial aid to your account after school
starts. Scholarships and grants will be applied to your account approximately
five days after school starts. If you have a Perkins Loan, you first
must sign the promissory note in the Business Office before it can
be applied to your account. The Business Office will contact you to
let you know when to come sign the promissory note. If you have a
Stafford Loan your lender will send the loan proceeds to the school
after school starts if you have returned the signed master promissory
note to them.
2. What should I do if I do not have enough financial aid to pay
for school?
You can contact our office to see if there are any other financial
aid options available to you. You should also contact the Business
Office to discuss payment plan options which may be available.
3. Do I have to be a full time student to receive my financial
aid?
You must be a full time student to receive institutional scholarships.
To receive a Stafford Student Loan you must enroll for at least six
hours. The amount of a Pell Grant will vary depending on the number
of hours you take. You must also be a full time student to receive
MTAG, MESG, SSIG, HELP, William Winter and the Critical Needs Teacher
Scholarship.
4. What if I have been awarded a Stafford Loan, but
I have not received my master promissory note?
You should contact our financial aid office to make sure you have
turned in all necessary paperwork.
5. When will I get my refund check if I am due
one?
The Business Office will send your check to you after your financial
aid has been applied to your account. It usually takes them 3 to 5
days to process the refund checks once financial aid has been applied.
6. If I move off campus will my financial
aid be affected?
This will not affect your federal or state financial aid. All institutional
scholarships will be reduced by 50% for students who choose to live
off campus unless otherwise noted. Students who are 21 years of age
or younger must live in a residence hall or at home with parents.
Students 21 years of age or older that elect to live off campus, and
not with parents will lose all institutional scholarships.
7. Will I be able to use my scholarships
for summer school?
Institutional scholarships awarded beginning with the 2000-2001 school
year can not be used for summer school. These scholarships are limited
to 8 semesters for entering freshmen and 4 semesters for transfer
students.
8. Do I have to apply for
financial aid every year?
Yes. If you are applying for federal or state financial aid you must
reapply every year. We will send the needed applications to you once
those forms become available. However, if you do not hear from us
by February of the following year, you should contact our office for
the necessary applications.
9. If I receive a bill
and my financial aid
is not showing on
it, what should I
do?
Please contact our office to make sure you have done everything necessary
in order for your funds to be applied to your account. Don't assume
that it will eventually be put on your account. The Financial Aid
Counselor will be glad to review your file to make sure everything
is in order.
10. How do I apply
for the Mississippi
Tuition Assistance
and Mississippi
Eminent Scholar Grant (MTAG/MESG)? (For Mississippi residents only)
