Mississippi Author Troy Carnes Signs New Historical Thriller at MC Bookstore

Author Troy Carnes

Mississippi author Troy Carnes will sign copies of his new historical thriller, “Rasputin’s Legacy,” at the Mississippi College Bookstore on March 21.

The event will be a homecoming of sorts for Carnes, a Greenwood native. The Deltan’s book is one of the texts used in an MC history class on Hitler’s Persuasive Powers.

“Any fans of World War II will definitely want to put Rasputin’s Legacy in their personal library,” said MC history instructor Sherye Green, who is using the text in her classes on the Clinton campus.  His book, she said, is “strongly rooted in World War II military history.”

Published in June 2010, the book brings to life many facts that often elude history textbooks, added Green, who also teaches at Jackson Prep in Flowood.

MC students are in for a treat.  While on the Clinton campus, Carnes will serve as a guest lecturer in Green’s  history class.

The signing at the MC bookstore is scheduled from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. that Monday.

The story’s central character, Giorgi Lazarov, is a young boy who can predict the future. His remarkable gift was passed down by his famous grandfather Grigori Rasputin. The book explores the Nazi invasion of Russia during World War II with both Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin seeking to use the boy’s skills for their cause.

Rasputin’s Legacy was born of Carnes’ desire to “write the kind of book I love to read” and is based on his fascination with the research of World War II history.

A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Carnes has spent two decades as a teacher and coach. He’s taught English, Spanish and journalism. He’s also an award-winning  girls’ basketball coach whose teams have won three state high school hoops championships in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools.

A former Green Beret, he has also worked as a freelance journalist. He and his family now live in Colorado.
