Professors Cecile Edwards and Greg Bowman taught MCSOL students in the inaugural Korea Summer Legal Studies Program. Students participated in an International Business Transactions course taught by Professor Bowman and a Global Issues in Corporate Law course taught by Prof. Edwards. Sookmyung University in Seoul, Korea hosted the MCSOL students and professors from June 11, 2008 to July 6, 2008.
Professor Edwards’ Corporate Law course familiarized students with foreign corporate laws, including those of South Korea, clarified issues under United States corporate law as they apply to global concerns and challenged assumptions that United States law is always the most desirable choice.
Professor Bowman’s International Business Transactions course included subjects addressing regional trade agreements and the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement.
MCSOL has chosen Sookmyung University as a host institution because it has an existing affiliation and strong relationship with Mississippi College’s undergraduate institution. Sookmyung University currently hosts MC’s undergraduate summer abroad program in Seoul.
