MC Law Wins ABA Arbitration Competition

Third-year students Erin Brown and Matt Jackson have emerged as regional champions in the 2009 American Bar Association (ABA) Arbitration Competition.  In addition to Brown and Jackson, the winning team also consisted of 2Ls Mike Bernier and Marla Mitchell serving as witnesses.  The team went undefeated, beating teams from Cumberland, Southwestern, University of Mississippi, and Louisiana State University.  In January, the team will travel to Orange, California to compete in the National Finals.

In addition to the winning team, MC Law had two additional teams compete in this year’s regional ABA Arbitration Competition, which took place on November 21-22, 2009, at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.  One such team consisted of 2L advocates Jessica Bates and Neil Wilson, with 2Ls Lindsey Gilbert and Larry McCarty serving as witnesses.  A third team consisted of 2L advocates Andrew McDowell and Jessica Murray, with 2Ls Emily Scott and Brandon Langford serving as witnesses.  The team led by McDowell and Murray competed in the final round, but was defeated by regional co-champion Southwestern Law School (Los Angeles, CA).  All three teams were coached by Bill Leech of Copeland, Cook, Taylor & Bush, P.A., and Professors Meredith Aden and Vicki Lowery.
