Configuring
Windows 2000 for Dial-In
- Go to:
START - SETTINGS - NETWORK AND DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS
- Double
click “Make New Connection”
- If you
are asked for your Country, Area Code and Number To Access Outside Line,
and you live on campus, please put in the flowing values and choose
OK: United States of America, 601, 9, Tone Dialing. If you live off
campus, please enter the appropriate values for your location. At the
Phone and Modem Options window choose OK.
- Choose
NEXT at the Network Connection Wizard Welcome Screen
- Click
“Dial-up to the Internet” and choose NEXT
- Click
“I want to set up my internet connection manually, or I want to
connect through a local area network” and choose NEXT
- Click
“I connect through a phone line and a modem” and choose
NEXT
- Put the
appropriate phone number in the Telephone Number box and choose NEXT.
On campus users should place 6000 in the telephone
number box and uncheck “Use area code and dialing rules”
and choose NEXT. Off campus users, should put 925-3980
in the Telephone Number box and choose NEXT.
- Enter
your Novell username and password and choose NEXT.
- Name
the connection “Dial-in to MC” and choose NEXT.
- Choose
NO when you are asked to Setup Your Internet Mail Account and choose
NEXT.
- Choose
Finish.
- You will
see a new icon called “Dial-in to MCNet”.
- Right-click
on the new icon and choose “Create Shortcut”.
- Choose
YES when windows tells you that it “cannot create a shortcut here”
and a new icon will be added to your desktop.
- Close
the NETWORK AND DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS window.
- To connect
to the MCNet, double click on the icon called “Shortcut to Dial-in
to MCNet” and then choose DIAL. OR Simply double click on the
“Internet Explorer” icon on your desktop and choose CONNECT
when prompted.
