
Configuring
Windows XP Home Edition
- Use "Start"
to get to "Control Panel".
- Launch
(double click) on "Network Connections".
- In the
"Network Tasks" window at the top left, you should see "Create
a new connection". Click on this.
- A new
window “New Connection Wizard” should appear. Press the
“Next” button to choose a type of connection.
- Check
the button for “Connect to the Internet”. Click the “Next”
button.
- On the
next page, choose “Set up my connection manually” and press
the “Next” button.
- On the
next page, choose “Connect using a dial-up modem” and press
the “Next” button.
- On the
next page, type "MCnet Dialin" for the name of your ISP in
the box, and press the “Next” button.
- Enter
the phone number for Mcnet Dialin. If you are calling from off-campus
then the number is "925-3980". If on-campus, then the
number is "6000". Enter the correct number and hit
the “Next” button.
- On the
next page, you will have to enter your account information. For "login"
and "password" use your assigned Novell login and password.
Be sure to type in upper and lower case letters exactly! You will have
to type your password twice on this page for confirmation. Before hitting
the “Next” button, place check marks in the options to “Use
this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet
from this computer” and “Make this the default Internet
connection”. Uncheck the box: “Turn on Internet Connection
Firewall for this connection”. Press the “Next” button.
- On the
next page, check the box for “Add a shortcut to this connection
to my desktop”. Click the “Finish” button to create
the new connection.
- A new
window, “Connect Mcnet Dialin”, will appear. Choose “Dial”
to connect to Mcnet.
- A new
icon will be created on your desktop “Mcnet Dialin”
