Alumni from Mississippi College Gather at Atlanta Braves Stadium

SunTrust Park

A visit to SunTrust Park, the new home of the Atlanta Braves, is part of a nice weekend gathering for Mississippi College alumni in Georgia.

“Wow!” is how Atlanta Braves icon Chipper Jones describes the 41,149-seat ballpark. The stadium was packed on opening day April 15 as the Braves defeated the San Diego Padres 5-2. Braves Hall of Famer Hank Aaron, and former Braves skipper Bobby Cox led the ceremonies. Atlanta Braves starter Julio Teheran tossed the game’s first pitch.

Mississippi College alumni and friends from across metro Atlanta are invited to see the Atlanta Braves face the New York Mets on June 9. Game tickets costing $27 are available for the 7:35 p.m. Friday contest from the Mississippi Society of Georgia.

People seated in the stadium’s group section will receive a Braves mini-bat and a Mississippi Society of Georgia backpack. The date at SunTrust Park is bobble head night for fans arriving early. And the National League contest will be followed by an amazing fireworks show.

The trip to the impressive new ballpark northwest of Atlanta is the newest attraction for Mississippi College grads making their annual gathering in the Peach State.

On June 10, Mississippi College supporters are also invited to hear live music, eat a delicious catfish lunch, and relax at Chastain Park in Atlanta. The Saturday event runs from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Nearby, MC fans will find similar tents pitched by supporters of other universities across Mississippi. The cost for a lunch plate is $15 in advance and $20 at the event.
