Big Crowds Booked for MC Summer 2012 Orientations

Nearly 1,000 new students and parents are booked for a series of summer orientation programs at Mississippi College.

The first freshmen sessions are set for Thursday June 14 and Friday June 15. It’s an opportunity for the newcomers to meet future classmates, develop class schedules with faculty advisors, tour the Clinton campus and hear from school leaders – from career services to student affairs.

MC faculty and staff will toss out the welcome mat. “There will be 1,000 students and family members coming from many states,” says Brandi Chancellor, coordinator of transfer recruitment with the Office of Enrollment Services.

Summer orientation will help the freshmen fall in love with the Clinton campus, she says.

There will be a free concert to attend in Clinton and loads of Mississippi College T-shirts going to students at the first two sessions.

Another option for freshmen will be the two-day orientations Friday July 13 and Saturday July 14.

Transfer students get their turn with a one-day program on Thursday July 12.

The new wave of summer orientations will embrace a new theme - “MC 2012 – It’s What You Make It.”

Other major dates on the summer calendar include a one-day mini-orientation for freshmen and transfers on Monday August 6th. The regular registration for freshmen and transfers for the fall 2012 semester will occur on Monday August 20.

Last fall, Mississippi College enrolled a record of nearly 5,300 students. Residence halls on the Clinton campus were packed last year.

Mississippi College has stepped up its student outreach to U.S. military veterans, current service members, and veteran dependents. MC’s Lt. Col. Danny Robbins serves as the coordinator of veterans outreach and as a university admissions counselor. Robbins can be reached at 601.925.7618 or drobbins@mc.edu.
