Choctaw Chorus Debuts at Mississippi College Concert

Mississippi College’s new Choctaw Chorus makes its debut at a December 1 performance on the Clinton campus.

The 40-member vocal ensemble will perform at the Christian university’s winter choral concert at Provine Chapel. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. It’s free and open to the public.

Director of Choral Activities Mark Nabholz serves as conductor of the Choctaw Chorus. While the name is new, the student group represents a combination of the MC Women’s Chamber Choir and Men’s Glee Choir.

Mississippi College students selected the name to the Music Department’s latest ensemble.

“This new group is designed both for music majors and for students who love to sing, but don’t plan to pursue a career in music,” Nabholz says.

Piano majors will accompany the Choctaw Chorus that Tuesday evening on the Clinton campus.

The 45-minute program will please a variety of musical tastes, from Madrigals to spirituals and from Bach to Whitacre.

“This program will have something for everyone!,” says Nabholz, a Clinton resident.

Music lovers shouldn’t miss another free concert on the Clinton campus this fall.

The MC Symphonic Winds directed by music professor Craig Young will present its annual fall concert November 23 at Swor Auditorium. The program on the stage in Nelson Hall begins at 7:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.

The student group will perform selections written for wind bands, including Fisher Tull’s “Sketches on a Tudor Psalm,” Percy Grainger’s “Spoon River,” and Jack Stamp’s “Aubrey Fanfare.”
