Counseling Services Director Morgan Bryant Receives Statewide Award

Morgan Bryant’s solid performance as director of Mississippi College’s Student Counseling and Disability Services Center is winning her statewide recognition.

At a meeting in Biloxi in early November, the Mississippi Licensed Professional Counselors Association honored Dr. Bryant with its counselor of the year award.

Holding two degrees from Mississippi State University and a doctorate in counselor education from the University of Mississippi, the Meridian native joined the Mississippi College center in July 2011. Last year, the program headquartered in Alumni Hall served 400 students on the Clinton campus.

Getting saluted by her peers across Mississippi is quite an honor, Bryant said.

“Being recognized for achievement by a group that truly understands the joys and travails of counseling is touching and meaningful,” Bryant said.

MC School of Education Dean Don Locke says Bryant’s honor is well-deserved.

Her award, Locke said, “is strong recognition from her peers as to her professional activity and her contributions to the counseling profession. Mississippi College is fortunate to have a recognized leader as the director of the campus student counseling center.”

Earline Kelly, the office administrator at the MC center, believes her colleague remains an excellent example of what a counselor should be.

“The privacy and confidentiality of her clients is one of the most important things to her. Her decision making is always carefully thought out,” Kelly said.

Very familiar with laws involving disability issues, Bryant wants each of the students with disabilities to excel here and upon graduation, Kelly said.

A member of the American Counseling Association, and president-elect of the Mississippi Licensed Professional Counselors Association, Bryant stays active off the MC campus.

She’s a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson, is active with the Jackson Junior League and the Belhaven Home & Garden Club. In addition, Bryant serves as a part-time counselor with A Bridge to Recovery that serves the needs of women.
