Entergy Donation Boosts Hap Hudson Homecoming Race at Mississippi College

Professor Suzanne McDonough and MC Kinesiology Department Chairman Chris Washam accept a $500 check from Entergy customer service representative Rob Logan of Clinton. The funds go towards MC's 8th annual Hap Hudson Homecoming Road Race on October 24.

A $500 Entergy donation provides a healthy boost to the Hap Hudson Homecoming Race at Mississippi College.

“We are so appreciative of Entergy for their support of our race,” says Kinesiology Department Chairman Chris Washam.

Funds generated from the 8th annual event on October 24 will benefit the Hap Hudson Scholarship Fund. The Saturday morning race honors Hudson, a beloved Mississippian and longtime MC coach from Clinton. The 5K race begins at 8 a.m. Cockroft Hall, winds through Olde Towne Clinton and wraps up on the track at Robinson-Hale Stadium.

On Tuesday, MC kinesiology professor Suzanne McDonough, the race coordinator, joined Washam to accept the check from Entergy customer service representative Rob Logan of Clinton.

She’s thankful for Entergy’s gift and the tremendous support from the Kinesiology Department’s race management team.

The squad includes: Zack Vosen, Kathy Gibbs, Penny McNair, Washam, Scot Long, Donnie Andrews, Carol Barnes and MC’s new wellness director Piper Walters.

“The race preparation is progressing very nicely,” McDonough says. “We have developed a pretty good system of taking care of business!”

Last year’s Homecoming race attracted 151 participants. Organizers hope to see those numbers climb on October 24.

The race provides a nice learning tool to MC kinesiology students. They work on registration, race management, timing, logistics, fund raising and the design of marketing tools, McDonough said.

“It is always a busy time of year, but the reward of having a fantastic annual event is worth every minute.”

The entry fee is $20 in advance and $25 during race day. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. that Saturday.

Participants will receive race T-shirts. Medals will be awarded to the top three winners in age group categories.
