Faith and Business Ethics Week Celebrated at Mississippi College

Faith and Business Week events at Mississippi College will attract another prominent lineup of speakers to the Clinton campus in the new year.

The programs are booked January 26-29 in the annual series launched a few years ago by retired Tennessee businessman Don Jordan. He’s a 1951 MC School of Business alumnus.

The special week helps students develop “a keen sense of ethical awareness and social responsibility powerfully grounded on Christian principles,” says School of Business Dean Marcelo Eduardo. “It is one of the most important events we offer our students.”

Speakers sharing their insights with MC business students on January 28 include John Damon of Mississippi Children’s Home Services, Tara Hayes of Chick-fil-A, Oscar Miskelly of Miskelly’s Furniture and Matt Thorton of the Butler Snow law firm.

On January 29, guest speakers will include Patrick Beekman, former director of Homeland Security in Union City, North Carolina, Samuel Graham, CEO of Diversified Trust, and Michael Cross, a senior analyst with Southern Sun.

Earlier in the week, professors will initiate classroom discussions on topics like ethical decision making in the business world.

Mississippi College business professor Billy Morehead is delighted to take part.

Faculty members “work diligently to show our students we can be business professionals with great integrity, live our lives, follow our Christian values and be very successful,” Morehead said.

“Papa” Jordan created the Holiday Deli & Ham Company with his son, Trey, in 1994. He’s been a longtime supporter of the School of Business at his alma mater. A spinoff of the Memphis-based restaurant chain is the popular Pimento’s Café on the Clinton campus.

Metro Jackson business and community leaders are invited to attend a January 29 luncheon and panel discussion at Anderson Hall, but they must RSVP. It begins at 11 a.m. that Thursday.
