Former New Orleans Saints Star Fred McAfee Addresses Mississippi College Sports Dinner

Fred McAfee, MC alumnus and former New Orleans Saints star.

Former New Orleans Saints star Fred McAfee will serve as the keynote speaker at Mississippi College’s fall dinner to boost support the university’s athletic teams.

McAfee returns to his alma mater on Thursday October 23 to address the 13th annual event at the B.C. Rogers Student Center beginning at 6 p.m. Over the years, the dinners on the Clinton campus have generated more than $1 million to pump into the Christian university’s NCAA sports teams.

Fred is a 1991 MC graduate, and former Choctaws football standout. The Philadelphia, Mississippi native presently serves as director of player personnel for the New Orleans Saints. He’s also a member of the Saints Hall of Fame with other luminaries like former quarterback Archie Manning and ex-wide receiver Joe Horn.

During his 16-year NFL career, McAfee also suited up for the Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In recent months, he’s been an enthusiastic supporter as Mississippi College transitions to NCAA Division II athletics and returns to the Gulf South Conference this fall.

Sarah Thomas of Brandon, who seeks to become the NFL’s first female referee, was last year’s speaker at the dinner that raised $160,000. Other speakers in past years have included former University of Mississippi Chancellor Robert Khayat, and San Diego Padres outfielder Seth Smith.
