Freshmen Orientation Sessions at Mississippi College Set for Early June

Coming from across the South and as far away as California, 200 Mississippi College freshmen will journey to the Clinton campus for the first wave of summer orientations in early June.

During their initial visit June 1-2, incoming students will eat lunch with members of MC clubs and tribes, meet President Lee Royce, get to know professors and design their class schedules.

The freshmen will also spend the night in MC residence halls, learn about campus ministries and become familiar with the Brick Streets along Olde Towne Clinton. They will make plenty of new friends along the way.

“We cannot wait to welcome these students to Clinton, Mississippi and show them around their new home,” says Elizabeth Rogers, student director for MC Orientation 2015.

The theme this summer is “Being MC,” and the goal is really quite simple. “Our goal is to show each student what a day in the life of an MC Choctaw looks like,” Rogers says.

Whether they are traveling from Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama or Illinois, the incoming freshmen will learn a great deal about 5,000-student Mississippi College in a couple of days.

The men will be housed at MC’s Chrestman Hall, while the women are staying overnight at the West Tower. Student-athletes will get the opportunity to meet the university’s athletic staff over breakfast.

In addition, the freshmen are invited to a fun event hosted by the university’s Campus Activities Board. There are even helpful sessions for parents making the trip to Clinton.

The cost for the summer freshmen orientations is $200.

The blitz of informative meetings will get the freshmen fully prepared to begin their studies at the Baptist-affiliated university in late August. “We are excited about what we believe will be our next record freshman class,” says admissions director Kyle Brantley.

The MC Office of Student Life is coordinating this summer’s orientations with the admissions team responsible for check-in and several of the parent sessions.

Mississippi College officials will toss out the welcome mat at a similar freshmen orientation for 200 more students June 4-5 and again on July 9-10. There’s an orientation booked for transfer students on June 25.

Incoming students who cannot participate in the earlier orientations can also take part in a one-day registration at no cost on August 24.
