Gore Gallery Hosts Kelly Walters Art Show

Kelly Walters

Artist and illustrator Kelly Varner Walters is being showcased at Mississippi College’s Gore Gallery this winter.

A visual arts teacher at the Mississippi School of the Arts in Brookhaven, Walters is a talented Mississippi College graduate. Her works will appear at the gallery on the Clinton campus through February 24.

“Her work is so creative and imaginative,” said Gore Gallery director Randy Jolly. “The work is slowly built up through several layers of glaze giving it a luminous quality,” he added. “I find her subject matter intriguing. It moves me to slow down as I think and reflect.”

The MC arts family recently welcomed Kelly at a reception in her honor at the gallery.

It’s really like a 2017 Homecoming for the innovative Mississippian. She earned her MFA at Mississippi College. Kelly taught at Hinds Community College in Raymond and at Mississippi College’s Clinton campus before moving to Brookhaven in 2013.

She earned her bachelor’s in art education at the University of Southern Mississippi. Walters describes herself as an artist who strives to “express life and the world around me.”

The Christian university’s Gore Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Tuesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Admission is free.
