Hap Hudson Race Attracts Runners Oct. 31

Coach Hap Hudson and kinesiology professor Suzanne McDonough discuss arrangements for the run
Runners take your marks and get ready to join the Hap Hudson Homecoming 5-K Race at Mississippi College. The Oct. 31 event is expected to attract more than 150 runners. The run is one of several activities held in conjunction with MC's Homecoming.

The turnout for the second annual race in Central Mississippi should easily exceed the 149 runners at the event last fall named in honor of the retired MC coach from Clinton.

MC's Department of Kinesiology is sponsoring the race. The 5K sprint begins at 8 a.m. at Cockroft Hall, winds through historic Clinton and surrounding neighborhoods before finishing at the Robinson-Hale Stadium track on the MC campus.

Refreshments will be provided after the run. Hudson is a familiar face to MC fans. He played sports at the Baptist-affiliated college about 50 years ago and remains active today.

MC kinesiology professor Suzanne McDonough, the race director, says the course can be a little hilly at times. It's a great way for Mississippians of all ages to get some exercise during MC's Homecoming weekend and pay tribute to Coach Hap Hudson, organizers say.

Registration for the race is $15 prior to Oct. 31 and $20 on race day. Registration will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. on that Saturday morning. Run begins at 8:00 a.m.
