Jackson Prep and Mississippi College Join Tuition Exchange Program

Mississippi College President Lee Royce signs the tuition exchange agreement as Jason L. Walton, Jackson Prep head of school, looks on. The agreement was signed at Dr. Royce’s office in Nelson Hall on March 17. It goes into effect August 1.

Leaders of Mississippi College and Jackson Prep signed an agreement that opens the door to tuition discounts for children of MC employees.

President Lee Royce and Jason L. Walton, head of the school at Jackson Prep, approved the initiative that will begin August 1, 2015.

Under the agreement, full-time MC faculty and staff dependents qualifying for admission to Jackson Prep will receive a 30 percent tuition reduction.

As part of the March 17 agreement, Jackson Prep graduates will be awarded a 40 percent tuition discount or scholarship at Baptist-affiliated Mississippi College.

Opened in 1970, Jackson Prep is an independent, co-educational and college preparatory day school enrolling 810 students in grades six through twelve. Located on a 74-acre campus in Flowood, Jackson Prep is the largest independent secondary school in Mississippi.

There are 91 faculty and staff at Jackson Prep, including eight instructors with doctoral degrees. There are 17 students in the typical class at the school in Rankin County. Members of its Class of 2013 were offered scholarships that totaled $6.17 million.

“The agreement between Jackson Prep and Mississippi College will benefit the employees and students of both institutions,” says Jim Turcotte, MC vice president for enrollment management and dean of students.

“We have enjoyed having several students each year who enroll from Jackson Prep and it is our hope that this agreement will enhance our relationship,” Turcotte added.

Jackson Prep leaders in December announced similar agreements with Belhaven University and Millsaps College, both in Jackson.

Enrolling more than 5,000 students, Mississippi College is the largest private university in the Magnolia State. “U.S. News & World Report” ranks MC No. 4 among the South’s regional universities in its “Great Schools, Great Prices” category in September 2014.
