Judge Henry Lackey Keynotes MC Law School Graduation

Third District Judge Henry Lackey will be the keynote speaker at the Mississippi College School of Law commencement May 14.

Ceremonies that Friday morning will begin 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Jackson.

A 1956 MC alumnus, Lackey has served as circuit judge in the Third District for 17 years. The district spans Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Marshall, Lafayette, Tippah and Union counties. Gov. Kirk Fordice appointed the Calhoun City resident to the bench in 1993.

His 43-year career spans service as a prosecuting attorney for Calhoun County and as a Mississippi public defender. In 2008, the Mississippi Supreme Court honored Lackey with its Chief Justice Award.

His alma mater, Mississippi College, named Lackey its 2009 Alumnus of the Year during Homecoming on the Clinton campus last fall. He also is a graduate of the University of Mississippi law school in Oxford.

"Judge Lackey is a model for emulation by lawyers and judges," said MC Law Dean Jim Rosenblatt. "We are pleased to have someone with his character, competence, and compassion speak to our students at this important juncture in their professional lives."
