MC Debaters Win Top Honors at LSU

Mississippi College debater Chase Porter enjoys talking about issues that matter - from Barack Obama's presidential campaign to the Hollywood writers strike.

An MC junior from Picayune, Porter got the opportunity to do just that and came away the top public debate speaker in a tournament at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He also won the award as the top speaker from Mississippi. With help from Porter and other students, MC also claimed the Mississippi State Debate Team Sweepstakes Championship at the three-day event that ended Sunday. MC claimed three individual titles at the event that began Friday.

"It's in my blood now - I love doing it," Porter said Monday. A May 2005 graduate of Picayune Memorial High where he was captain of the speech and debate team, Porter, 21, is a Christian Studies/political science major at MC and also serves as vice president of the college?
