MC Faculty Recital Features Mozart Aug 28

The musical sounds of Mozart will be in the air when two Mississippi College faculty members present a recital Friday August 28.

Soprano Kristen Johnson and pianist Carol Joy Sparkman will combine their extraordinary talents at the evening event at the Jean Pittman Williams Recital Hall. The recital in the Aven Fine Arts Building at 7:30 p.m. is free and open to the public.

Dr. Johnson and Sparkman are both graduates of Mississippi College. As members of the music faculty, they collaborate as performers and co-directors of fall and spring musical productions.

Sparkman has accompanied the Mississippi College Singers in concerts stretching from Provine Chapel on the Clinton campus for the Festival of Lights to Carnegie Hall in New York. The Yazoo City native has joined the MC Singers for an assortment of productions in Europe.

In a few months, the next stop for the MC Singers led by choral director and music department chairman James Meaders will be Lincoln Center in New York. Sparkman will join them.

Other music at the MC faculty recital will include the works of Jean Sibelius, Albert Roussel and American composer Jake Heggie.

While many Mississippians will be cheering for their favorite high school football teams Friday night, this MC faculty recital promises to be a winning alternative for music lovers in metro Jackson!

MC faculty will be showing off their talents in other ways. The Gore Galleries will host a faculty exhibit in October that features some of the finest art works of MC professors. For details on that show, contact Gore Galleries director Randy Jolly at 601.925.7770 or art department chairman Randy Miley at 601.925.3912.
