MC Hosts Mississippi Wind Symphony Concert

Directed by music professor Craig S. Young, the Mississippi Wind Symphony opens its summer concert series at Mississippi College on Tuesday May 25.

The 7:30 p.m. event at Swor Auditorium on the Clinton campus is free and open to the public. Young serves as director of bands at MC.

This is the symphony's 10th anniversary concert and will feature works by Leonard Bernstein, Samuel Barber, Percy Grainger, Robert Russell Bennett and other musical artists.

The symphony consists of leading wind and percussion instrumentalists from Mississippi and Louisiana.

The Mississippi Wind Symphony's next summer concert will be Tuesday June 22 at Ridgeland High School. The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature the new piano concerto written by retiring MC music professor James Sclater with MC music professor Angela Willoughby accompanying on piano. Sclater, who also plays clarinet in the orchestra, has served as an MC faculty member for 40 years.

The wind symphony is regularly heard on Mississippi Public Radio.
