Mississippi College law professor Pat Bennett received her latest national honor as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Created in 1955, the Fellows is an honorary organization of attorneys, judges, law faculty and legal scholars. The organization is limited to less than one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Elected by their peers, members are outstanding achievers dedicated to their communities.

Bennett’s election speaks to her exemplary dedication to her profession and commitment to the work of the Chicago-based American Bar Foundation.

At the MC Law campus in Jackson, Bennett serves as director of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Center. The Mississippian teaches criminal procedure, trial practice and mediation advocacy. She joined the faculty in 1989.

Bennett is delighted to be recognized by the American Bar Foundation.

“I am elated that I have been elected a Fellow,” Bennett said. “It is a professional honor to be recognized in this prestigious organization.”

A graduate of Tougaloo College and the MC School of Law, Bennett was named the 2014 Mississippi College Distinguished Professor of the Year.

MC Law Dean Wendy Scott applauds the hard work of her colleague.

“Professor Bennett has earned the respect of practicing lawyers and judges in Mississippi for her professionalism,” Scott said. “Her election to join this prestigious group of lawyers not only affirms her outstanding reputation; it also brings honor to MC Law.”

Enrolling more than 400 students, the MC School of Law is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Professors like Bennett continue to build the reputation of MC Law across the South and the nation.

Bennett served as a former visiting professor at such law schools as Harvard, Emory and the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. She is a former assistant U.S. attorney and a past president of the Fifth Circuit Federal Bar Association.
