MC Music Department Presents Two Free Concerts

Music lovers are invited to two free concerts at Mississippi College in late November.

Audiences on the Clinton campus are in for a real treat: two Mississippi College Music Department concerts are booked for late November. And the price can’t be beat: both events are free.

Under the direction of music professor Craig S. Young, the MC Symphonic Winds will present their Fall 2016 concert on November 21. The Monday evening program in Swor Auditorium begins at 7:30 p.m.

Fresh off their Fall tour, the MC students will perform the music of extraordinary composers George Gershwin, Eric Whitacre and others. The public is invited.

Advance the calendar by a little more than one week, and make plans to see the Mississippi College Jazz Band perform their Fall concert on November 29.

The Tuesday evening program is scheduled for the Jean Pittman Williams Recital Hall in the Aven Fine Arts Building. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy the sounds of the Jazz Band directed by Wayne Linehan.

Audiences can expect to hear a mixture of the sounds of jazz greats like Duke Ellington, including his classic “Satin Doll.” There will be more modern tunes in the musical lineup as well. There will be a delightful arrangement from the TV show “The Simpsons” for audiences to relish.

Featured guest trombonist Adam Almeter will join the talented band of MC student musicians for a rousing version of Mancini’s “Charade.”

Jazz Band concerts tend to be pretty popular attractions at MC. Audiences are encouraged to arrive at the Williams Recital Hall a little early to the concert venue on the Clinton campus.
