MC Partners with Angel Tree at Clinton Christmas Parade

Watch for the decorated shopping carts in this year's Clinton Christmas Parade, and come prepared to drop a gift inside to help children less fortunate.

For years, Mississippi College has partnered with Prison Fellowship's Angel Tree to provide Christmas gifts for the children of incarcerated parents. This year, the entire city of Clinton has the opportunity to play Santa Claus.

Families are encouraged to bring an unwrapped present to the Clinton Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 5, for the Angel Tree project. Student volunteers from MC will collect the gifts as they pass by with their shopping carts on the parade route. All presents donated will be given to children around the area who will spend the holidays without one, or both of their parents.

Financial contributions will also be accepted. All monies collected will be used to purchase additional gifts.

"We support the Angel Tree program because we realize how blessed we are and continue to be," explained MC Community Service Director Shari Barnes. "There is so much need in this world and we can make a small difference in the lives of these children."

For those interested in donating who cannot attend the parade, members of the MC Community Service Center will be at the Wal-Mart on Highway 80 on two consecutive Saturdays, Dec. 5 and 12, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., to collect gifts. Donations can also be made by visiting the Community Service Center, located on the first floor of the B.C. Rogers Student Center on the campus of Mississippi College.

"We hope that being part of the Christmas parade will encourage people around the city to become more invested in what we are doing," said Myles Lofland, a student worker at the MC Community Service Center. "If that happens, we'll be able to accept more children who we otherwise wouldn't be able to help."

Gifts can be as inexpensive as $5.00.
