MC Students Attend 2009 Grad Fair

Mississippi College senior Amanda Harmon arrived at MC's Grad Fair with loads of questions about what she needs to do before her December graduation.

After being sized up for her cap & gown at a photo session, and visiting with helpful MC staffers Wednesday, Harmon felt she's well on her way to getting her diploma on the Clinton campus Dec. 18.

"This was real convenient," said Harmon, a kinesiology major from Kosciusko. "I enjoyed it. It was all the information I needed."

MC students on track to graduate in mid-December at the A.E. Wood Coliseum will have another opportunity Thursday to attend the Grad Fair. The program will be from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the second floor of the B.C. Rogers Student Center.

The event allows MC students to order their official class ring, stop by the finance table to check their account balance, visit with staffers at the alumni table and chat with the director of MC's Office of Career Services.

They can find out about all the services available to new graduates, get information on the senior send-off party, sign up to become members of the MC Alumni Association and purchase diploma frames. MC has more than 30,000 graduates nationwide.

The Grad Fair is simply the one stop planning event under one roof to meet students' graduation needs.

Bookstore staffer Megan Demeranville, an MC student from Vicksburg, stayed busy telling classmates about what her store has to offer to new grads and how they can order Choctaws clothing items.

MC senior Rebecca Heath of Ridgeland, who will graduate in May 2010, says the Grad Fair is a wonderful idea. The psychology student hopes to return for a similar event before her graduation next spring. Heath plans are to either attend graduate school or become a counselor.

Terryle Collins, an interior design major from Jackson, said she had "tons" of questions before arriving at Wednesday's Grad Fair. She left with her questions answered. "This is great."

It was a combined effort as staffers from the MC Alumni Association, Career Services, the registrar's office, financial services and others worked as a team to help the process go more smoothly for MC's future graduates.
