MC Welcomes Network Support Manager Van Jones

Mississippi College offered the opportunity to work in a Christ-centered environment with a talented team in the computer services department, Van Jones says.

That was good enough for the Mississippi native who recently decided to accept MC's offer and become the network support manager at the Baptist-affiliated university.

Just a few days into his new job that began in late August, Jones says he's very excited to be working with Bill Cranford, Cindy Hampton and other colleagues in MC computer services.

"Their dedication to serving the faculty, staff and students of Mississippi College is evident," says Jones, who's worked 18 years in the information technology field.

Until recently, the Raymond resident was the information technology support manager with the Butler Snow law firm in Jackson. He also logged a dozen years working at "The Clarion-Ledger." His most recent job at Mississippi's biggest newspaper was serving as the network and desktop support manager.

As the network support manager at MC, Jones oversees the day-to-day operations of the computer services support team. He coordinates staff and network resources for special projects and performs other duties. Computer-driven MC is a big operation with nearly 4,900 students, and 460 faculty and staff members.

Originally from Clinton, Jones once lived in a two-story home on Berkshire Street until his family moved to Terry when he was a ten-year-old. A former Clinton Academy student, Van later graduated from McCluer Academy. He holds two undergraduate degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, including a bachelor's in management information systems.

When the work day ends on the Clinton campus, Jones heads home to a wonderful family in Raymond. Married for 16 years, Jones and his wife, Stephanie, are the proud parents of two daughters, Alex, 14, a student at Terry High, and Kaela, 12, a student at Byram Middle School. "God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters," Van says.

The MC staffer and Stephanie are active members of Country Woods Baptist Church in Byram where they serve in the music, children's and missions ministries. The family has lived in Raymond the past 13 years.

Like her husband, Stephanie Jones stays busy. Stephanie is the office manager and bookkeeper for the J. Walter Michel commercial real estate company in Jackson.

Bill Cranford, MC's chief information officer, is delighted to welcome Van Jones, with his nearly two decades of information technology experience, to the Christian university. Jones is filling Cranford's former post on the Clinton campus.
