Military veterans with legal concerns can get help at the Mississippi College School of Law.

MC Law will host a legal clinic to assist veterans in metro Jackson on February 10.

“This is just the next step in MC Law’s long tradition of supporting veterans and the military,” says professor Richard Meyer. He’s an organizer of the event on the Jackson campus.

America’s 20 million military veterans includes more than 200,000 living in Mississippi. The numbers include 7 million Vietnam War veterans and 5.5 million Americans serving during the Gulf War era.

The free clinic extends services that began as America observed the 2016 Veterans Day in November.

MC Law will partner with the school’s Military Justice Society, the Mississippi National Guard and the Mississippi Bar’s Military Assistance Committee to sponsor the clinic. The event runs from 9 a.m. through noon in Room 151-A at the law school campus on East Griffith Street in Jackson.

Veterans service officers in the region will team with MC Law students and other volunteers to offer assistance.

Needs of veterans are vast in terms of healthcare, education, legal assistance and other services in all 50 states.

In Mississippi, more than 4,000 veterans are receiving education assistance under the G.I. Bill. Veterans Administration expenditures in Mississippi total about $1.2 billion, reports show.

The MC Law veterans clinic is scheduled the second Friday of every month.
