Mississippi College Community Service Gains National Honor

Mississippi College is among more than 700 schools around the United States recognized for a strong commitment to community service.

Founded in 2006, the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll bestowed the honor to MC and other schools around the nation. The honor roll raises the awareness of the contributions that colleges and their students make to local communities and the nation as a whole.

MC was among nine universities and colleges in the Magnolia State that were spotlighted. The others included Delta State University, Millsaps College, William Carey University, Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi. Others were Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Rust College and Tougaloo College.

The Corporation for National and Community Service recently announced the Honor Roll recipients.

The MC Community Service Center puts students in touch with 150 agencies in metro Jackson. More than 1,000 MC students sign up for community projects every year, says director Shari Barnes. For more information about service opportunities, contact Barnes at 601.925.3267 or sbarnes@mc.edu.
