Mississippi College Hosts 2014 Healthcare Reform Summit

Spread of the deadly Ebola virus from West Africa to the United States, the federal Affordable Care Act and rapid medical innovations are some of the major health issues on the minds of people today.

Guest speakers at the 5th annual Mississippi Healthcare Reform Summit will tackle some of the biggest topics facing Americans at the conference October 21. The future of the Post Affordable Care Act environment will be the broad focus for the meetings at Mississippi College.

The summit on the Clinton campus brings together national healthcare experts and notable state leaders to address topics that businesses face in managing healthcare programs and costs.

Participants will hear from state policy makers, corporate professionals and medical leaders taking on significant topics as Mississippians navigate healthcare reform for years to come.

The event at Anderson Hall runs from 8 a.m. with an opening welcome from Mississippi College School of Business Dean Marcelo Eduardo. The program that Tuesday closes at 3 p.m.

Among the speakers are 3rd District U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper of Pearl, who’s a Mississippi College graduate, MC business professor Bobby Perkins, Lester Diamond, president of St. Dominic Hospital and Dr. Randy Easterling, medical director of the Marion Hill Chemical Dependency Unit.

Other speakers include Dr. David Duddleston, vice president and medical director at the Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, Chris Anderson, president & chief executive officer of Mississippi Baptist Health Systems and Deidra Bell, executive vice president and chief financial officer for St. Dominic Health Services in Jackson.

The conference is presented thanks to a partnership between the MC School of Business and several organizations. The list includes the Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, the Mississippi Business Group on Health, the Capital Area Human Resource Association and the Mississippi Society for Human Resource Management.

Healthcare is a vital concern in the Magnolia State. Mississippi’s rates for obesity, heart disease, and diabetes are among the worst in America. Conference speakers like Murray Harber of the Mississippi Business Group on Health and Matt Ginn of the Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company will discuss employee wellness programs.
