Mississippi College Hosts Fall Blood Drives

Mississippi College students, faculty and staff will be asked to donate the gift of life at blood drives on the Clinton campus this fall.

Mississippi Blood Services personnel will collect units of blood September 14-15 at the Alumni Hall lobby. The drive runs from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Those signing up at MC are eligible to receive a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. All donors will receive T-shirts.

Last year, members of the MC family donated more than 400 units of blood, said MBS senior marketing representative Tammy L. Bouchillon.

MC’s next blood drive this fall is set for Nov. 30-Dec. 1.

Mississippi College student donors in January included 20-year-old accounting major Kollette Clark of Merigold. She’s been a regular donor since her mother needed a blood transfusion in 2008.

Professor Kent Mummert began donating blood as an MC freshman in 1976 and he refuses to quit giving. The Clinton resident became the first Mississippian to exceed 500 blood donations earlier this year. “There are still plenty of people that need help,” he said.

With its headquarters on  Lakeland Drive in Jackson, Mississippi Blood Services supplies blood and blood products to hospitals in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee.
