Mortar Board Honor Goes to Mississippi College Chapter
Mortar Board leaders presented their Silver Torch Award to Mississippi College’s chapter at their national meeting in Chicago.
Accepting the award for MC was 21-year-old senior Casey Stevens of Clinton. The 2007 Clinton High graduate and kinesiology major leads the university’s 50-member chapter founded in 1978.
MC was among 77 college chapters recognized for meeting chapter management standards while they exemplified the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service.
Founded in 1918 with original members including Cornell, Ohio State, the University of Michigan and Syracuse, Mortar Board has grown to 228 campus chapters nationwide, including 250,000 members. Members include former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees, the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.
Mortar Board is considered the premier national honor society for college seniors that recognizes their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service.
Stevens accepted the award at the national meeting earlier this summer. At MC, Stevens has been involved in a number of organizations, including a Baptist Student Union singing group, and recently landed a role in this month’s MC production of “Little Women” on the Clinton campus.
