Mississippi College will host two spring concerts featuring the works of world-class composers – from Mozart to Dvorak.

On April 11, the Mississippi College Singers and the Choctaw Chorus will be on stage with members of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra to perform Mozart’s “Requiem.” Also part of the 150 voices at Swor Auditorium will be the Jackson Choral Society.

Mark Nabholz, the MC director of choral activities and Jackson Choral Society leader, will direct the performance on the Clinton campus. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. that Monday evening.

Tickets can be purchased online at mc.edu/marketplace or at the door. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens. Student tickets are free.

A second Mississippi College Music Department concert that shouldn’t be missed is booked for April 15.

Featured that Friday evening, MC Music Department Chair Angela Willoughby will perform on piano along with members of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. The talented musicians will showcase Dvorak’s Piano Quintet. The prominent Czech composer died in 1904.

Following that piece, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra members will perform Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring.” Making its debut in 1944, the wonderful piece by the Brooklyn, New York-born composer captures the essence of American ideals – from open fields to endless possibilities.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. that Friday in the Aven Fine Arts Building’s Williams Recital Hall. Tickets can be purchased online at mc.edu/marketplace or at the door. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $5 for students. The program is part of the Christian university’s Sclater Chamber Music Series named for James Sclater, the award-winning Clinton-based composer and retired MC music professor.
