Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann Addresses Summer 2009 Commencement

July 20, 2009

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann is the keynote speaker at Mississippi College's summer commencement August 1.

The Saturday event begins at 10 a.m. in the A.E. Wood Coliseum. About 200 MC students will receive degrees. Parents, other relatives plus a delegation of MC faculty and staff members will be on hand for the graduation.

First elected to the statewide office in November 2007, Hosemann has worked to ensure the integrity of elections and has taken steps to make Mississippi more business-friendly.

A Republican, Hosemann is the 7th secretary of state elected in the Magnolia State since 1900. He has served as a partner with the Phelps Dunbar, LLP firm in the capital city.

With the graduation rolling around, MC's new school year begins in late August. One of the big events of MC's 184th academic year is the annual "Backyard Brawl" that pits MC against rival Millsaps. The football game is Sept. 5 at Robinson-Hale Stadium on the Clinton campus. Led by star quarterback Adam Shaffer, MC will seek to avenge last year's 42-6 loss to the Majors in Jackson.

For the third year in a row, the Backyard Brawl will help raise awareness and cash for the no-kill animal shelter Community Animal Rescue & Adoption. CARA is located at 960 North Flag Chapel Road in Jackson.
