Students Elect McAlexander as New SGA President

Clinton High graduate Harley R. McAlexander is the new student government leader at Mississippi College in his hometown.

Results of the runoff announced today show McAlexander defeated MC junior Alex Touchstone Jr. of Meridian to become the Student Government Association president for 2008-2009. Exact runoff results from Thursday's contest were not released.

McAlexander will be sworn in during ceremonies at Provine Chapel later this month. He will succeed outgoing SGA President Aaron Graham of Jackson.

Chase Porter of Picayune, the SGA vice president, was the third candidate in the initial three-man race earlier this week. Touchstone also served the SGA as elections commissioner.

McAlexander, 21, an MC junior, is presently chief of staff with the SGA. The Clintonian is a 2005 Clinton High graduate where he finished first in his class. At the 4,600-student Christian university, he served as president of the Civitans, a social club on the MC campus in Clinton. He performed in the award-winning Attache show choir as a dancer-singer for three years at Clinton High.

The new SGA leader is the son of Charles and Kathie McAlexander of Clinton.
