Ten Thousand Books On Sale At Mississippi College

Mississippi College is sponsoring a whale of a book sale Oct. 16-17.

At the moment, more than 10,000 books, audio tapes, vinyl records, DVDs, and other items have poured in for the annual sale on the Clinton campus. The Leland Speed Library's event will be held at Alumni Gym.

This year's sale to benefit the MC library will open on Friday Oct. 16 with MC faculty and staff to get first shot from 9 a.m. until noon. Next, the public in metro Jackson gets their turn from noon until 6 p.m. that Friday. The sale reopens Saturday Oct. 17 for all comers from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

That Saturday sale coincides with Family Day at the Christian university, including a Choctaws home football game and fun-filled events on the Quad. The event for book lovers makes for a nice added attraction for visiting MC parents, alumni and friends, notes library director Kathleen Hutchison.

Hutchison and her Leland Speed Library colleagues will have their cash registers ready. Last year's event raised $6,700 for the library along College Street. Hutchison hopes to match, if not exceed, last year's revenues. Library staffers continue to accept donated items.

The book sale, Hutchison says, gives folks an excellent opportunity to clean out their shelves at home.
